It
was not until the 14th and 15th centuries in Europe that interest was
shown in knotted carpets. The oriental flat weaves, our present-day Kelims,
are much older, of course. As a result of their history they represent
an original sector in the field of weave culture, which mainly developed
with nomadic peoples. In Fars it was the Gashgai and Luri nomads who for
centuries produced articles for daily use from sheep's wool and goat's
hair. For instance, practical textile containers for storage and transport.
The
flat weaves produced by the nomads are not only impressive because of
the material and working. The attractive colouring and the variety of
the patterns give these weaves their fascination and aura.
The
colours and patterns of oriental flat weaves were originally more than
"simply" embellishment and decoration. The different variations indicate
typical groups within a nomadic people. Even today they are identification
of a clan or tribe. ORITEP and Dastafarin foster this originality with
tremendous love of detail. If you take the splendid wool of Persian sheep
and dye it using natural colours you produce a carpet with bright colours
and diverse patterns in the old, nomadic tradition. At ORITEP technical
skill and natural materials complement each other creating a valuable
carpet enriching our home décor.
